15 April 2017 – Keris Conlay have won the 2017 AirAsia Malaysia Rugby League Championship after they beat Eagles Rugby Club 15 – 12. The match that took place at Padang A, Univeristi Putra Malaysia, Serdang saw a bumper of crowd made their way to watch the season ending match.

Eagles Rugby Club dominated the opening encounter. This lead to their first try in the 8th minutes by Mohd Fikri Sawi. Conlay managed to come back in to the game as they score 2 tries and complete a conversion. Mohd Fairuz Abdul Rahman also completed a penalty from the half way line as Keris Conlay lead 15 – 5 in the first half.

Eagles scored their second try of the match 20 minutes into the second half with William Douglas Jordan Juinor Talaitana-Mu completed the conversion to close the gap to 15 – 12. Both team have their chances to add points later in the game but the score remained until the final whistle.

The championship match was officiated by Stephen Copeman from Hong Kong. He was assisted by Mohd Hafis Abdullah, Fazly Mohd Salleh, Sharizal Abdul Manaf and Supyan Md Yasin.

The match was live on RTM1. It was streamed live and watched via www.mru.org and www.ragbionline.com for those who view it online from all over the world

Keris Conlay received RM 12000 cash, championship trophy and medals as the champion while the runner up, Eagles Rugby Club brought home RM6000 and medals. The prizes were presented by Tan Sri Datuk Seri Panglima Pandikar Amin bin Haji Mulia, the speaker of the Dewan Rakyat.

The great match ended the season on a high. It will be interesting to see what will happen in 2018 as the League will move up to another level with the introduction of Semi-Professional league.
