18 April 2017 – Week after the final of 2017 AirAsia Malaysia Rugby Championship, Malaysia national team will be flying to Perth, Australia as the part of the preparation for the upcoming Asia Rugby Championship. Most of the players gathered are in the best possible condition as they played in the league since February.
Malaysia will be flying to Perth on 19th April 2017 from KLIA 2. They are having their daily training at the COBRA Club as well as at the Padang Utara, Petaling Jaya before their flight to Australia.
The team is under Mr. Raimi Yusof management. Mr. Lee Nyuk Fah is acting as the head coach with the assist from Mr. Hamrizal Hamdan and Mr. Jude.
Numbers of familiar faces make it to the team such as Mohd Farid Sujari of Mersing Eagles, COBRA, Mohd Syahir Asyraf and Dineswaran a/l Krishna who is currently play for Yamaha Jubilo in Japan.
The national team will be having a week of intensive training in Perth. Other than that, they will be having friendly match against Emerging Force Selection XV.
Malaysia will be the host for the upcoming Asia Rugby Championship – Division 1. They will be up against the United Arab Emirates, Philippine, and Sri Lanka. The matches will be held at Padang Ipoh, in Perak.
The first match for Malaysia at the Asia Rugby Championship – Division 1 will be on 14th May as they will take on UAE. Malaysia will play the last match of the ARC on 20th as they will play Sri Lanka as the last match in that championship.
