18 December 2017 – Malaysia Under 19 secured the third spot in the Asia Rugby Championship Under 19 – Division 1 in Manila yesterday. They showed a much better performance to overcome the tournament host, Philippines in their 3rd/4th place match.
Both teams did not have their best game in the semi-final. They were soundly beaten by South Korea and the United Arab Emirates on the 13th December.
Malaysia U19 took a commanding lead in the first half as they started with a bang and scored the first try of the match in the first 5 minutes. Malaysia ended the first half with a comfortable 17 – 0 lead.
The Philippines improvised to match Malaysia in the second half. Both teams had a good half but the damage was done in the first gave Malaysia the third spot.
Harith Iqbal who played the fly-half had an outstanding game. He scored a try, 4 conversions and a penalty to contribute 16 points for Malaysia.
Muhammad Safiy, Muhammad Sayuti, Caphryan Danny and Muhammad Sameer also register their name as try scorer.
Malaysia will remain in the Asia Rugby Championship Under 19 Division 1 in 2018 with the win. The United Arab Emirates promoted to the ARC U19 Premier after their win over South Korea in the final. UAE overcame the Korean 19 – 12.
