31 October 2017 – Malaysia 7s men rewarded with RM 60000 incentive. That came after the team won Malaysia first ever Gold medal during the 2017 Kuala Lumpur SEA Games in rugby.

Malaysia beat rival, Singapore in the Gold medal match to win the final match. Played right in front of bumper crowds at the MBPJ Stadium, Kelana Jaya, Malaysia dominated the final and trashed Singapore 22 – 7. That win created history as Malaysia win their first ever gold after they won Silver in the last edition.

It was the 15th gold medal won by Malaysia. Malaysia won 145 gold medals during the game.

The team received RM 60000 as part of the Skim Hadiah Kecemerlangan Sukan (SHAKAM) of the Majlis Sukan Negara. Each player will receive RM 5000. Their coaching and management team will receive separate incentive from the MSN.

The team lead by their captain, Zulkiflee Azmi received the incentive from the Prime Minister, Dato’ Seri Najib Tun Razak accompanied by Minister Youth and Sport, Khairi Jamaluddin. The duo also presented the gold medal to the team during the 2017 Kuala Lumpur SEA Games.

All the medalist during the 2017 Kuala Lumpur SEA Games were presented with their own incentive based on their performance during the game. The ceremony was held at the Axiata Arena, Bukit Jalil.
